The road to the 98th Academy Awards is officially underway with the release of the Oscars shortlists.
Academy members across the organization’s branches participated in a preliminary round of voting to determine which films will advance in their respective categories. The shortlisted categories are: Animated Short Film, Live Action Short Film, Documentary Feature, International Feature, Original Song, Original Score, Makeup and Hairstyling, Visual Effects, and Sound. Alongside that familiar lineup are also two newcomers to the shortlist: casting and cinematography.
Oscar nomination voting will open on January 12th and close on January 16th. From there, the nominations in each category will be announced on January 22nd. The ceremony will be televised live on March 15th.
