It is the ninth theatrically released entry in the Star Wars franchise. It hit theaters on December 16, 2016, and was directed by Gareth Edwards. Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi is the tenth Star Wars film in order of release and it was written and directed by Rian Johnson and released on December 15, 2017.
