Deadline has reported that Aaron Sorkin is set to write and direct The Social Network Part II. It will not be a direct sequel, but it will be a follow-up to the original film from 2010.

There had been rumblings about a sequel to The Social Network for years now, but both Screenwriter Sorkin and Director David Fincher have said that they didn’t know what the sequel would be inherently about.

Sorkin has been inspired by the Wall Street Journal’s The Facebook Files from 2021, which brought to light the inner workings and harms the social network has caused to teens, preteens, and adults alike. Previously, Sorkin and Sony both said they would not make it unless David Fincher returned as director. Now, Fincher is set to follow up Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, following the adventures of Cliff Booth.

As of now, Jesse Eisenberg and Andrew Garfield have not been announced to return. Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross have yet to be announced if they are returning for the music and score, both of whom received critical acclaim for their work on the original.

The Social Network Part II does not have a production date set.
