On Monday, Focus Features and Working Title announced the title and release date of filmmaker Ethan Coen‘s new movie.
Previously untitled, the film is called Drive-Away Dolls and will be released in theaters on September 22, 2023, during the fall awards season. After the Coen brothers decided to part ways in their long-spanning career of co-directed work, this is the first solo effort from Ethan Coen after Joel Coen directed The Tragedy of Macbeth on his own in 2021 without his brother.
Ethan collaborated with Tricia Cooke on the film, co-writing the script with producers Robert Graf, Tim Bevan, and Eric Fellner and starring Margaret Qualley, Geraldine Viswanathan, Beanie Feldstein, Pedro Pascal, Colman Domingo, Bill Camp, and Matt Damon. The plot revolves around two friends, Jamie and Marian, who embark on a spontaneous road trip to Tallahassee to start fresh. However, things quickly take a turn for the worse when they encounter a group of incompetent criminals along the way.
Focus will distribute Drive-Away Dolls in the US, while its parent company Universal Pictures will handle overseas distribution.
