The trailer for Master Gardener, the crime thriller written and directed by Paul Schrader has been released by Magnolia Pictures. The film is billed as the third entry in a loose trilogy for Schrader who has explored narratives of solitary men surrounded by dark circumstances in his last two films with First Reformed starring Ethan Hawke and The Card Counter starring Oscar Isaac.

Master Gardener features Joel Edgerton as Narvel Roth described as “A meticulous horticulturist who is devoted to tending the grounds of a beautiful estate and pandering to his employer, the wealthy dowager” (Sigourney Weaver). The film premiered at Venice International Film Festival and also screened at New York Film Festival and spent two months without a distribution deal before being picked up by Magnolia in November.

The film will be in theaters on May 19. You can watch the official trailer below.
