After about two weeks of eerie security cam footage, ominous messages, and a spooky website, Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema have released today the official trailer for Zach Cregger’s second feature film, Weapons (2025), which is currently set for a release date of August 8th, 2025.
Just yesterday for Entertainment Weekly, Cregger discussed what he was aiming for with his follow-up to his 2022 surprise hit Barbarian. When comparing it to Barbarian, he stated, “It is more ambitious in almost every way. I don’t just mean in terms of the budget, but I just mean creatively…The story is weirder and it’s twistier and it’s bigger. I have way more actors to fit into this thing. The set pieces are bigger. It’s just a bigger, weirder movie than Barbarian is.”
The premise of the film involves a little town named Maybrook and the disappearance of an entire class of children who wake up at 2:17 am, walk out of the front door of their homes, and never come back, leaving the entire community in shock from their disappearance. The film is confirmed to star Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, Alden Ehrenreich, Austin Abrams, Cary Christopher, Benedict Wong, and Amy Madigan.
Weapons are set to release at the tail end of the summer, this August, and is also confirmed to be slated for an IMAX rollout.
