Norwegian actress Renate Reinsve, who gained international recognition for her performance in the Oscar-nominated film The Worst Person in the World, has joined the cast of Weapons , a new horror film from New Line Cinema.

The film will be directed by Zach Cregger, who also wrote the screenplay. Cregger is best known for 2022 AirBnB horror hit Barbarian.

Weapons is described as an interrelated, multistory horror epic that is tonally similar to Paul Thomas Anderson’s 1999 film Magnolia which features interrelated characters in a sprawling ensemble. Details about the characters are being kept under wraps, but the story is said to revolve around the disappearance of high schoolers in a small town.

Reinsve will star opposite Pedro Pascal, who is best known for his roles in the TV series The Last of Us and The Mandalorian. Pascal will play a detective investigating the disappearances.

Other cast members include Shea Whigham, Lucy Liu, and Brittany Snow and production is scheduled to begin in June. The film is expected to be released in 2024.

Reinsve is a rising star in the film industry. She has appeared in several Norwegian films, including Oslo, August 31st. She won the Best Actress award at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival for her performance in The Worst Person in the World.
