Many questioned whether the current The Continental (2023) and From the World of John Wick: Ballerina (2025) spinoffs would be the only expansions we see from the John Wick franchise, but we have confirmation today that this is not the case. Deadline reports from CinemaCon that we are getting a spin-off focusing on Donnie Yen’s Caine from John Wick Chapter 4 (2023), an animated prequel film (confirmed by IndieWire), and the fifth chapter of the mainline John Wick films.

The Donnie Yen Caine-focused spinoff is said to be directed by Yen himself and is described as a Hong Kong-style action thriller, with most of the plot elements still being under wraps. “Donnie is not only an incredible, charismatic star but a smart, cinematic director who knows how to deliver massively entertaining action for a global audience. We’re thrilled that he’s in the director’s chair to tell Caine’s story,” stated chair of the Lionsgate group Adam Fogelson

The animated prequel was also part of today’s announcements at CinemaCon with Keanu Reeves, expected to return and voice the character. Helming the ship is Director Shannon Tindle, who also directed UltraMan: Rising for Netflix last year. The animated feature will flashback to events before the very first John Wick film and will depict “The Impossible Task” that freed him from his High Table obligations.

And finally, many think John Wick is officially back with a fifth mainline entry in the franchise–John Wick: Chapter 5–in the works with Reeves and franchise director Chad Stahelski both set to return. The franchise has collected more than $1 billion at the box office, but Fogelson added that more than money encouraged the return of the actor, director, and producers:

“Keanu, Chad, Basil (producer), and Erica (producer) would not return unless they had something truly phenomenal and fresh to say with these characters and this world.” Fogelson said, “We can’t wait for audiences to see where the journey takes us next.”

Production for the Caine spinoff is set to begin later this year. Both the prequel and fifth chapter have yet to begin production.
