The release plans for Killers of the Flower Moon, the long-awaited Martin Scorsese-directed adaptation have been set by Apple Original Films and Paramount, who will partner to release the film theatrically worldwide. Per the studio reports, the film is set to open in limited release on October 6 and wide on October 20.

The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro, two of Scorsese’s mainstays who will be joined by Lily GladstoneJesse PlemonsCara Jade MyersJaNae CollinsJillian Dion, and Tantoo Cardinal. The film is an adaptation of the novel by the same name written by David Grann, while the screenplay is written by Eric Roth and depicts the serial murder of members of the Osage Nation known as the Reign of Terror.

The remaining unknowns are if it will be confirmed for a Cannes premiere which has been rumored of late, in addition to the date the film will move to streaming on Apple TV+. If Apple decides to premiere at Cannes this May, the film would be held for five months between its festival premiere and wide release date, an approach that will undoubtedly be weighed heavily given the film’s awards potential and Oscar pedigree. Apple will be looking to position the film for success after becoming the first streamer to win Best Picture with CODA but having few major contenders in 2022.
