Festival coordinators for the Cannes Film Festival confirmed Friday that Martin Scorsese’s highly anticipated film, Killers of the Flower Moon, an epic western adaptation following the serial murders of the Osage Nation in the 1920’s, will premiere at the 76th edition of the prestigious festival.
The film is an Apple Original and stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, Lily Gladstone, Jesse Plemons, Cara Jade Myers, JaNae Collins, Jillian Dion, and Tantoo Cardinal who will all walk the red carpet with Scorsese at the May 20 premiere. It was announced earlier this week that it would also be receiving an October 6 limited release and an October 20 wide release in partnership with Paramount Pictures and part of Apple’s new theatrical push which will see a $1 billion investment. Cannes typically prioritizes the theatrical model, and this decision from Apple likely swayed the festival toward programming the film.
Cannes organizers did not confirm if the film would be competing in or out of competition, an announcement that will come in an official press conference in mid-April, but either way, it will be the first Scorsese film to screen in official selection since After Hours in 1986.
