After the summer 2023 release of Jordan Peele’s third film Nope, the renowned comedian turned writer/director is already forging ahead on his next project which has been announced for a Christmas 2024 release date.

The project is currently untitled and no details about the story or cast that Peele will work with have been revealed, but what is even more surprising is the release date is set just days behind Disney’s December 20, 2024 date for Avatar 3. Given Avatar: The Way of Water’s box office dominance in the past few months and the franchise gathering over $4 billion in cumulative global gross, Universal’s decision to compete with James Cameron is sure to spark questions as to whether the comedy/horror auteur can break through against the third return to Pandora.

Peele is one of the few filmmakers who is luring audiences to theaters with original ideas given the $250 million+ returns for his first two films, Get Out and Us, but Nope was his lowest-grossing film to date at $171.2 million.
