Live from New York, it’s nearly Saturday night! Deadline reported Tuesday that Lamorne Morris, Dylan O’Brien, Cory Micahel Smith, and Matt Wood are the latest to join the cast for Sony Pictures’ SNL 1975 from director Jason Reitman.
Morris is to play Garrett Morris, O’Brien is to play Dan Aykroyd, Smith is to play Chevy Chase, and Wood is to play John Belushi. The film depicts the real-life events of the 1975 premiere episode recording of Saturday Night Live.
The actors join a high-profile cast of up-and-coming stars like Gabriel LaBelle, Cooper Hoffman, and Rachel Sennott, who were previously cast as Lorne Michaels, Dick Ebersol, and Rosie Shuster, respectively.
The official logline for SNL 1975 reads as follows: On October 11th, 1975, a ferocious troupe of young comedians and writers changed television forever. This is the true story of what happened that night behind the scenes in the moments leading up to the first broadcast of SNL. The chaos and magic of a revolution that almost wasn’t, as we countdown the minutes in real-time to the infamous words, “Live From New York, it’s Saturday Night.”
Reitman co-wrote the screenplay with Gil Kenan after the two executed a large-scale interview process. They spoke with every living cast member, writer, and crew member who contributed to the show’s first episode to reconstruct the events of the evening with as many perspectives as possible. The two are producing alongside Jason Blumenfeld, Erica Mills, and Peter Rice.
SNL 1975 currently has no production start date or estimated release date.
