After the success of Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, the director claims he must keep making blockbusters.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Nolan feels pressure to keep creating large films. Although he has a soft spot for smaller movies, such as another 2024 nominee, Past Lives, Nolan sees it as a disservice to filmmakers everywhere if he were to turn his back on the big budgets he typically receives.

As calculated via Box Office Mojo, the film earned almost $1 Billion at the box office in 2023. Oppenheimer has been nominated for thirteen Academy Awards for the 2024 ceremony, including Best Director and Best Picture.

Although Nolan has directed other box office hits and critically acclaimed films, the over 3-hour-long tale of the creation of the atomic bomb stands out from other films in his discography. As Nolan’s only biopic and most awarded film, it stands out amongst his filmography.
