At 8:30 AM EST on January 23rd, The Academy released the 2024 Oscar Nominations. Jack Quaid and Zazie Beetz presented each category, leaving audiences vilified and shocked at the final decisions.

It was an obvious ringer for the star-studded, wildly successful Oppenheimer to be up for thirteen individual nominations. Noted as Christopher Nolan’s magnum opus, this film landed multiple spots in The Academy’s highly anticipated lists.

As for Barbie, the other half of the Barbenheimer duo, The Academy’s choices left fans buzzing with opinions. With America Ferrera placing a nomination for supporting actress and Ryan Gosling for supporting actor, fans of the movie were left wondering where Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig land.

Although Gerwig was nominated for Adapted Screenplay, along with her partner, Noah Baumbach, many felt slighted by the lack of a directorial nomination. As for Robbie, no nomination was granted, leaving audiences tapping their chins with curiosity.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the sheer fact that a woman-led film that brought in hordes of people to the theaters was left with no nomination for lead actress or director will definitely cause ripples.

Was this predictable or another representation of how the movie’s premise went over people’s heads?
