Celine Song, the director of Oscar-nominated Past Lives, is set to work with A24 on her upcoming romantic comedy titled “Materialists.”

According to Variety, Chris Evans, Dakota Johnson, and Pedro Pascal are set to star in the movie, which is believed to start production in May.

The specific roles of each actor have not been released, but the lineup is enough to leave audiences on the edge of their seats far before the film’s release.

Bouncing from Pain Hustlers to a romantic comedy is sure to leave Chris Evans fans delighted, while Dakota Johnson is already back in the game with her new film Madame Web premiering next week.

Pedro Pascal’s last few years in Hollywood have been nothing short of spectacular. Thanks to the massive success of  Game of Thrones, The Last of Us, and The Mandalorian,  Pascal has garnered a strong fan base – one that will likely be excited to see him take on a romantic comedy.

This movie will be Song’s second film and, with Past Lives seeing loving feedback all around, will be highly anticipated. Past Lives received five Golden Globes, three BAFTA nominations, and two Oscar nominations by The Academy.

Transitioning from directing a romantic drama to a romantic comedy will be an interesting path; Past Lives’ serious tones left little room for outright laughs. Although some scenes had humorous dialogue, nothing about the film was genuinely comedic. With romance at the center of both films, it will be an experience to see how Song allows humor and comedy to be at the forefront of the storyline.

With staunch support for her directorial debut, Song is on an exciting track for her sophomore movie.

Having your first-ever film so widely accepted and enjoyed is a rare feat, so hopefully Song will live up to the standard set for herself by her debut movie.

Stay tuned to see how Past Lives performs at the 2024 Oscars Ceremony.
