We may not have to wait for Yorgos Lanthimos and Emma Stone’s next venture too long.

The Hollywood Reporter reported on Thursday, that Searchlight Pictures has announced Lanthimos’s ninth directorial feature film, Kinds of Kindness (2024), will have a theatrical release date set for June 21, 2024. The news follows Lanthimos’s recent Poor Things (2023) winning four Oscars, including a Best Actress win for Stone, at the 96th Academy Awards.

Emma Stone, a frequent collaborator, returns to head a star-studded cast that includes Poor Things alumnus, Willem Dafoe and Margaret Qualley, with newcomers Jesse Plemons, Hunter Schafer, Hong Chau, and Mamoudou Athie. Joe Alwyn, who worked with Lanthimos on The Favorite (2018) also returns.

Lanthimos has described the film as an anthology film with three separate storylines that collide. (Plot details have been kept under wraps.) “It’s a contemporary film, set in the U.S. — three different stories, with four or five actors who play one part in each story, so they all play three different parts. It was almost like making three films, really,” Lanthimos said in a Guardian interview.

Kinds of Kindness also reunites Lanthimos with his longtime writing partner, Efthimis Filippou, who co-wrote Dogtooth (2009), Alps (2011), The Lobster (2016) (earning the duo a Best Original Screenplay Oscar nomination), and The Killing of a Sacred Deer (2017).

This summer release could be preceded by a speculative Cannes Film Festival debut, which will take from May 14 to 25 place. The last three Lanthimos films before The Favorite made their global debuts at the European festival.
