Coyote vs. Acme has overcome all its trials and tribulations, placing third in the domestic box office this weekend. 

The film grossed an estimated $11,111,621 in wide release. While this number may appear low by the standards of a conventional studio release, the road to movie theaters has been anything but conventional for this film. 

This live-action-animation hybrid was originally conceived as a Warner Bros. release, until the studio shelved it for tax-credit purposes. The decision caused a perpetual uproar within the film community. For a time, the fate of this unique spin on a classic IP was a mystery. However, in March 2025, Ketchup Entertainment saved the project and announced plans for a theatrical release. In August 2026, Coyote vs Acme’s rocket ship blasted its way into theaters at long last. The film stars Will Forte, Lana Condor, John Cena, and of course, Wile E. Coyote. 

The Looney Tunes spin-off outperformed fellow box office newcomer The Dog Stars from Walt Disney Studios, 20th Century, and Ridley Scott. The new post-apocalyptic thriller, based on the acclaimed novel of the same name, earned $8,000,000 this past weekend. After receiving an unenthusiastic reception from critics and audiences, the movie still reached fourth place in its opening weekend. The Dog Stars stars Jacob Elordi, Margaret Qualley, Josh Brolin, Guy Pearce, Allison Janney, and Benedict Wong. 

The Odyssey continues to blaze a trail in theaters seven weeks after its initial release. The massive Christopher Nolan epic earned $14,300,000 over the weekend, bringing its domestic total to a strong $563,821,605. 

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is swinging into unprecedented heights in the number one spot. The Spidey sequel earned $15,525,000 this weekend, bringing its domestic total to $884,832,928. At this rate, the film is poised to become the highest-grossing movie of all time at the domestic box office. That title is currently being held by Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015) with $936,000,000 domestically. Given the momentum of the beloved Tom Holland Spider-Man starring sequel, there is even a chance that Brand New Day will not only surpass The Force Awakens’ record, but also become the first movie to ever hit $1,000,000,000 at the domestic box office alone.
